Meet The Sugarroosters

Dave Bernard

Fiddle

Jazz violinist, Christian Howes described Dave Bernard’s playing  best when he said, “ when you swing as hard as Dave does, people tend to overlook the intonation issues”.  As a songwriter, Dave is known for his deep underground hits like “Life Boats”, “Angry and Bitter”, “God Let Me Do It Over Again” and “Our Love Is Like A Crucifixion”.   Someday, the New Yorker’s Talk About Town will say,  “This guy has a deep understanding of life’s dark underbelly.”

Mahlon Aldridge

Bass

Mahlon emerged from the poison ivy, tick infested Ozark Mountains to willingly serve as the solid center for Sugar Rooster, The Intangibillies, Velvet Hands, Wet and Reckless and the many stadium-filling super groups of his youthful imagination. He wishes he was literally John Hartford, all four members of Zeppelin, and Sam Bush. This remains his goal and he actually believes it possible to achieve in this lifetime.

Steve Wiesner

Guitar

Raised on Zeppelin, Rush and Black Sabbath, Steve Wiesner comes steeped in a hard rock soup with a little Parliament Funkadelic and  Steely Dan thrown in for flavor. ”But isn’t Steve a bluegrass guy?” That question gets asked a lot, to which Steve replies, “Don’t pigeonhole me, man”.

Neal Curran

Mandolin

A transplant from Durham North Carolina, singer song-writer, Neal Curran brings his deep rooted gospel sensibilities to alt everything. Neal is an amazing songwriter with a powerful voice.  When Rolling Stone does write about him, it will say “Neal bets it all. He leaves nothing on the table. With Neal, it’s always a death defying high-wire act where even the falls turn into a thing of beauty”
